A training available for parents or educators. This training covers the adolescent brain, the changes in behaviors and biology which impact academic and social performance. It includes effective and easily applicable strategies to support young people as they transition from childhood through adolescence.
Conscious Discipline for Children and Teens
Participants will become familiar with Dr. Bailey’s research on conscious discipline and the three components of safety, connection, and problem-solving. Participants will learn the seven skills of composure, assertiveness, encouragement, choices, empathy, positive intent, and consequences. The presentation will include a lesson plan and age-specific strategy for all 7 skills. Participants will learn why these strategies work and how to use them in the classroom, group, or one-on-one setting.
Coping Strategies for Trauma-Sensitive Schools: A Guide for Teachers
Presentation will cover background research on our response to trauma and the strategies that can help foster resiliency and hope. Participants will learn how trauma affects the mind and the body in addition to a variety of strategies to use in a classroom setting (i.e., mindful awareness, positive mental habits, guided imagery, and grounding). Participants will leave this workshop with the knowledge of what a trauma-sensitive school is and how to help a child/teen who has experienced trauma.
Stress Management
Background literature will be provided on what protective factors help us cope with life’s adversity and how we can not only help ourselves, but others cope with adversity at home and in the school. Participants will leave with a variety of stress management techniques and strategies.
Leadership Training; The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Training will come from Stephen Covey’s book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (i.e., be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put things first, think win-win, understand to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw). An experiential approach to learning will be provided. Attendees will learn effective leadership strategies and ways to implement the 7 habits/principles. Resource materials will be provided for students and staff to reinforce the 7 habits/principles.
Using Self-Regulation to Manage Emotional Mayhem: Grades K-5Using Self-Regulation to Manage Emotional Mayhem: Grades 6-12
The presentation will include an in-depth understanding on what self-regulation is, the neurobiology behind it, and how to help children manage their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Strategies will focus on the Collaborative and Proactive Solution (CPS) approach to discipline rather than the more traditional approach of rewards and punishment. Specific strategies include progressive muscle relaxation, thought recognition exercises, the invitation, and the frame, a problem-solving technique. A list of effective coping strategies, and scripts will also be provided in this workshop.
Ways to Reduce Symptoms of Anxiety in the Schools: A Guide for Teachers
The presentation will cover background research on the common disorders and symptoms that go with anxiety and depression. Factors that influence the development of these disorders/symptoms will also be addressed (i.e., biological, neurobiological, temperament, psychological, and social). Participants will be able to identify the different symptoms and provide a variety of strategies to help the child overcome the adversity they face. Strategies will consist of the floating technique, name it to tame it, systematic desensitization, and cognitive restructuring. Participants will learn why these strategies work and how to use them in a classroom setting.
